Preschool Center

Preschool Center

Our Preschool Center is a home away from home for children thirty-seven months of age until they enter First grade. For children to be a part of these classrooms they need to be well on their way to being potty trained.   Preschool Extended Care is open from 6:30 – 6:00, Monday through Friday all year long. The Preschool Center also includes three Preschool Classes that meet from September through May. You can find more information about this program on the Preschool Classes Section of our web site.

Preschool Extended Care Room

The Preschool Extended Care also provides learning centers and a calendar around which they work daily. They have weekly visits from the librarian and sing with Mrs. Zito during our “Music Time.” In the summer months, when the Preschool Classes are not in session, the Extended Care Classroom has a weekly calendar, takes field trips and even has a “sprinkler day” to play outside in the water. The children always work on skills that help them get ready for Kindergarten. For those children who were in Kindergarten – this work during the summer months helps to keep their skills solid.

In the Preschool Extended Care parents or guardians are asked to supply special blankets (as needed) and a crib sheet to fit our mats. We ask that they also bring in extra clothes for accidents (both in the bathroom and with liquids and paints) and all food for the children’s meals. On occasion we can heat food but usually it is better to send items that do not need heated.

In the Preschool Room the children have our “Center Snacks” twice a day. We are working at becoming more and more health conscious with these snacks. We provide crackers, fruit, cheese and an occasional cookie along with cold water. On special occasions we will have juice but the empty calories in this beverage are something we try to avoid.

We serve breakfast at 8:00 and lunch at Noon. These meals are eaten “family style.” We sit down together and work on manners, conversation and good eating habits while we dine. The children then rest between Noon and 2:00 or so. Busy mornings lead to the need for this quiet time.

Transition Room

The Transition Room serves children who are older fours, fives and Kindergarteners. We separate the rooms during the busy part of the day so that the activities we plan can be better suited to the children’s developmental level. In the Transition Room the daily schedule and parent responsibilities are the same as the Preschool Room. Please check their portion of the website for this information.

Following lunch the rest time in the Transition Room is more informal because usually the children’s need for rest is different than that of the children in the Preschool Extended Care Room.

The curriculum in the Transition room is part of a monthly calendar or theme. The children in this room work on many different subjects that build upon and enrich the Preschool Classes and Kindergarten curriculum that fills their days.
