Preschool Classes - September to May

Preschool Classes run from September through May and are a more formal educational experience to help prepare children for Kindergarten and the many "classroom" experiences of their lives. We have three different classes to meet the different needs of the preschoolers in our Center.

Two-Day Preschool Class

This class is developed to meet the needs of children who are three by September 1st. The curriculum is set up so that the children are able to interact with adults, other than their immediate family, in a safe and loving environment. The children will have the opportunity to develop their socialization skills in a positive learning atmosphere.

The curriculum is developmentally appropriate. It incorporates the Christian faith stories and the best of children’s literature. We work to provide opportunities to learn about multi-ethnic and diverse cultures as well as understand physical and emotional challenges.

Our teacher, Mrs. Lucarelli says, "This fun and exciting program emphasizes motor, social and cognitive skills. A variety of topics will be explored through large and small group activities such as circle time, story time, arts and crafts, music and movement, dramatic play and cooking."    The classes last on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 – 11:30. They are designed to build a strong foundation for our three-day program.

Three-Day Preschool Classes

The three-day program is designed for children who are 3.5 by September 1st. One of the goals of this program is Kindergarten readiness. Classes meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. until Noon. Classes begin after Labor Day and continue through May.

What we will do:

The curriculum is set up so that the children are able to interact with adults, other than their immediate family, in a safe and loving environment. The children will have the opportunity to develop their socialization skills in a positive learning atmosphere. This will happen as we:

  • Teach the children that they are each special.
  • Teach the children to feel happy and secure away from their home environment.
  • Teach the children to share, to play in a positive manner, and to make friends.
  • Teach the children an enjoyment of many varied activities.
  • Teach the children to listen and follow directions.
  • Teach the children to recognize and print their first name using upper and lower case letters. (e.g. John).
  • Teach the children to use scissors correctly.
  • Teach the children to express themselves creatively through show and tell, finger plays, music, etc.
  • Teach the children to print and recognize the capital and lower case letters of the alphabet and the numbers 1 to 10.
  • Teach the children about their world through lessons about weather, the calendar, holidays and the seasons.
  • Teach the children to experience science by making them aware of the wonders around them.
  • Help the children awaken the joy for learning that will hopefully grow throughout their lives.
  • Share together in "Time With Jesus," our weekly song and story time.
  • Provide parent/ teacher conferences.
  • Have qualified, quality educators working with your children.
  • Offer child care before and after this program for those who need it.
  • Staff so that children have one teacher with them at all times but rather than stay in one room, "travel" to different Centers to take part in Dramatic Play, Story time, Music, Science, etc.
  • After the children feel safe in the Center, work with other teachers and adults who have gifts in a variety of educational activities, while staying with their "homeroom" teacher.
  • Four-day a week Transition Class

This class is offered for those who want or need an extra year before Kindergarten. The class meets Monday through Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. until Noon. In order to expand our children’s view of the world we take at least one field trip each month.

What we do in T-Class is the same as the Three-Day Class with an extra day of practice and time to study the topics at a deeper level.
